Background

NextGen Play was a UK startup building a mobile gaming platform where players could compete in skill-based games for real-money prizes.

The company later rebranded as Splash Games, while its underlying technology evolved to serve as the foundation for other businesses operating in the skill-based gaming space.

Over several years, we supported the product with backend development and maintenance, cross-platform mobile development and ongoing technology consulting.

Solution

At the core of the platform was a custom skill-based gaming engine designed to power competitive real-money gameplay across multiple game concepts.

The backend handled critical functionality including player matchmaking, game sessions, scoring, leaderboards and competition management, while providing the infrastructure required to operate and scale the platform securely.

We continuously developed and maintained the backend and its AWS cloud infrastructure, while supporting the wider team across mobile development, product design and technology decisions.
